MOXI™ LASER

Fractional non-ablative rejuvenation by Sciton - refine pores, even tone, and support collagen with little downtime

MOXI fractional laser skin rejuvenation

Gentle fractional laser. Real-world friendly downtime.

When the goal is to even out skin tone, refine pores, make the skin smooth, and activate natural rejuvenation processes without stepping away from life for a long recovery, MOXI is one of the best solutions. Busy people can use MOXI regularly as part of their skincare routine, even with a packed schedule. It allows you to keep living and working while maintaining your appearance, smooth, radiant skin and a fresh, lifted look without taking extended time off.

The MOXI laser is a fractional non-ablative laser developed by Sciton. It is designed for gentle, non-aggressive, and generally very tolerable rejuvenation. Because MOXI is fractional and non-ablative, it does not remove the entire top layer of skin and does not burn the whole surface. Instead, it creates many microscopic pinpoint injuries in the skin. After MOXI, natural renewal is activated and collagen and elastin production is stimulated. Unlike ablative lasers such as classic CO₂, MOXI is more sparing: usually a few days of mild redness and light dryness, then you can typically apply light foundation, SPF, and go out the next day.

MOXI is often chosen to:

  • Improve uneven tone, early sun damage, and dullness
  • Refine pores and smooth skin texture
  • Support collagen and elastin for fresher looking skin
  • Fit into a maintenance routine with minimal social downtime
  • Pair with BBL® HERO™ when you want both surface texture and light-based correction of pigment, redness, or acne

Put simply, BBL and MOXI are combined when you want lifting, smoother texture, and skin that looks clearer of pigmentation, rosacea, and acne-related changes. After age 30, many people, especially in the UK, see rosacea and/or hyperpigmentation, acne, and post-acne marks overlap with loss of elasticity. At Promeds Clinic in Derby and Cambridge we often perform combined MOXI + BBL when the plan calls for it.

How does MOXI™ work?

Microscopic fractional columns stimulate renewal while keeping the skin barrier largely intact

MOXI delivers fractionated non-ablative laser energy to create controlled micro-zones of treatment. The skin responds with a wound-healing cascade that supports collagen and elastin and gradually improves texture and tone. Because the treatment is non-ablative, you avoid the long recovery associated with full surface ablation.

A particularly strong effect can come from combining BBL Forever Young with MOXI: BBL addresses pigment, redness, and acne-related change while also supporting youthful gene-expression patterns, while MOXI focuses on surface quality, smoothness, pores, and radiance. Details of BBL science and protocols are on our BBL® HERO™ page.

Comparison to other treatments

Why patients choose MOXI or pair it with BBL

  • Compared with CO₂ or erbium YAG resurfacing: MOXI prioritises quicker recovery and gentler fractional treatment; deeper ablative lasers can deliver more dramatic resurfacing but usually require a longer and more uncomfortable healing phase.
  • Compared with BBL alone: BBL is exceptionally strong for pigment, vessels, redness, and acne-related change; MOXI adds fractional surface renewal for texture and glow. Together they address both deeper light-based targets and superficial quality.
  • Compared with doing nothing between seasons: MOXI fits maintenance-minded patients who want visible refinement without putting life on hold (provided SPF and sun behaviour are taken seriously after treatment).

Treatment process

What to expect when MOXI is performed alone or with BBL

  • Consultation: Our GMC-registered doctors examine your skin and agree whether MOXI alone, BBL alone, or a combined protocol is appropriate.
  • Preparation: The skin is cleansed. For MOXI, numbing cream may be applied when indicated. For BBL, a clear cooling gel and protective goggles are used.
  • Treatment order (combined): BBL is usually performed first (flashes and light snaps), then MOXI (even warming heat). Each segment often takes about 10–15 minutes of active treatment time.
  • Aftercare on the day: Cooling gel and a soothing cream are applied. Overall, plan for roughly one hour at the clinic including preparation.
  • Home care: Daily high-protection SPF, gentle skincare, and the advice given for your specific protocol. Book a free consultation in Derby or Cambridge for a personalised plan.
After MOXI laser - gentle recovery and skincare

Post-treatment care

After MOXI, there is usually no sharp pain, but warmth like a very mild sunburn is common until later the same day. For roughly 3 to 5 days the skin may feel dry and slightly rough, without heavy peeling like after CO₂ or deep peels. Simple care supports your result.

  • Use sunscreen every day, ideally SPF 50, and reapply every 2–3 hours when outdoors.
  • Avoid sunbathing and tanning beds for the period your clinician advises which is often at least 2 weeks, ideally longer.
  • Use gentle moisturisers; avoid harsh rubbing while the skin is renewing.
  • Makeup is often fine the next day for many patients; keep brushes clean and favour lighter coverage at first.
  • For barrier support after procedures, many patients like Medik8 Ultimate Recovery: Medik8 Ultimate Recovery 30ml

What should I avoid before and after MOXI™?

  • Follow your doctor’s instructions on retinoids, acids, and exfoliants before treatment.
  • Do not sunbathe or use tanning beds during the recovery window you are given.
  • Treat SPF as part of the treatment, not optional. Reapply when outdoors.
  • Do not pick flaking or rough skin; let the renewal process complete naturally.
  • If you take systemic isotretinoin or have active skin disease, discuss this at consultation. Timing of laser may need to be adjusted.

Possible post-treatment effects

  • Temporary redness, warmth, or sensitivity in the treated area.
  • A rough or dry texture for several days with mild flaking rather than heavy sheets of peeling.
  • Mild swelling can occur in reactive skin types.
  • Serious complications are uncommon when MOXI is performed with an appropriate protocol on suitable skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about MOXI™, BBL combinations, and recovery

What is the MOXI™ laser?

MOXI is a fractional non-ablative laser developed by Sciton. It is designed for gentle, non-aggressive rejuvenation that is generally very tolerable, improving skin texture, smoothness, and overall tone. Because MOXI is a modern fractional laser, it does not remove the entire top layer of skin and does not treat the whole surface like an ablative laser. Instead, it creates many microscopic, pinpoint micro-injuries. After treatment, natural skin renewal is activated and collagen and elastin production is stimulated. When the goal is to even out skin tone, refine pores, smooth the skin, and support natural rejuvenation with minimal downtime, MOXI is one of the strongest options. Busy people can use MOXI regularly as part of their skincare routine, even with a packed schedule, and keep living and working while maintaining smooth, radiant skin and a fresh look without taking extended time off for recovery.

How does MOXI compare with ablative lasers such as classic CO₂?

MOXI can be thought of as one of the best tools for soft, comfortable maintenance of youthful-looking skin at any age. There is no need to wait a week for heavy shedding or for pronounced swelling and burns to settle. Unlike ablative lasers, MOXI is more sparing and recovery is usually quick, often a few days of mild redness and light dryness. After MOXI, you can typically apply a light foundation, SPF, and go out the next day, which is exactly why many busy patients choose it.

Why are BBL and MOXI done together?

Put simply, BBL and MOXI are combined when you want lifting, smoother texture, and skin that is clearer of pigmentation, rosacea, and acne-related changes. Very often, as we age, the issue is not only on the surface. After age 30, many people, especially those living in the UK, experience rosacea and/or hyperpigmentation, acne, and post-acne marks. With age, the skin loses elasticity, and vascular changes plus accumulated pigmentation can overlap. In these situations, at Promeds Clinic we often perform combined treatments: MOXI + BBL.

To learn how BBL works, how to tell genuine Sciton BBL from imitations, and how BBL treats rosacea, acne, and pigmentation, see our BBL® HERO™ page.

What is BBL Forever Young + MOXI?

A particularly strong effect comes from the combined treatment: BBL Forever Young + MOXI. BBL not only addresses pigmentation, rosacea, and acne. It also supports rejuvenation at the level of gene expression. In combination with MOXI, skin quality improves both on the surface and from within.

BBL triggers molecular processes associated with younger-looking skin activity at the level of DNA and proteins. It activates genes that stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis, suppresses genes associated with ageing, and increases expression of youthful gene patterns. Procedures have a cumulative effect. This is supported by research (Chang et al., Stanford, 2012). In patients who have BBL regularly from around age 30, skin can show a slower pattern of age-related change at the gene-expression level (Rejuvenation of Gene Expression Pattern of Aged Human Skin by Broadband Light Treatment: A Pilot Study).

What is the difference between MOXI and CO₂ or YAG resurfacing lasers?

The main difference is recovery time. Specifically, little to no meaningful downtime with MOXI in most cases. MOXI is fractional and gentler, with minimal discomfort for many patients. CO₂ and erbium YAG systems can be very powerful. They can treat scars, perform deeper resurfacing, and create more dramatic tightening; they are often used alongside plastic surgery. After aggressive CO₂ or YAG resurfacing, recovery often takes 7–14 days because the procedure is more intense. Prolonged redness is common, followed by heavier peeling. With MOXI, you can rejuvenate the skin and usually return to work the next day.

What do MOXI and BBL feel like during the procedure?

When combining MOXI and BBL, BBL is usually performed first. BBL often does not require anaesthesia, though sometimes the doctor may apply numbing cream in advance. Before BBL, a clear cooling contact gel is applied and protective goggles are worn. During BBL, you feel a bright flash of light and quick, light snaps like a rubber band against the skin. During MOXI, the sensation is often described as an even warming heat.

You can read real patient reviews on our main page and on Google.

How long does a MOXI and BBL visit take?

Overall, we recommend setting aside about one hour for your visit to Promeds Clinic. The BBL portion itself often takes about 10–15 minutes, and MOXI about 10–15 minutes. The skin is cleansed beforehand, numbing cream is applied before MOXI when needed, and cooling gel plus a soothing cream are used after the procedure.

Will my face hurt after the MOXI laser?

After MOXI, there is usually no sharp pain in the treated areas, but there can be a sensation of warmth in the skin, similar to a very mild sunburn. This often lasts until the evening of the same day. Then, for roughly 3 to 5 days, the skin may feel dry and slightly rough, but you typically will not see heavy peeling like after CO₂ laser or deep chemical peels.

Can laser treatments be done in summer?

MOXI and BBL are gentle procedures and can be performed at any time of year. In contrast, very strong fractional lasers and deep chemical peels are often planned during periods of lower sun activity. After any light or laser treatment, wearing SPF is a mandatory part of the treatment course, and tanning on the beach or using tanning beds is not allowed during the recovery window advised by your doctor.

If you want to understand pigmentation in more detail, read our article on hyperpigmentation.

Can MOXI remove scars, marks, or tattoos?

MOXI can partially improve the texture and colour of mild or small scars. Overall, MOXI is a relatively gentle laser; for more significant scars, deeper fractional CO₂ resurfacing or a course of chemical peels is often more appropriate. MOXI is not intended for tattoo removal.

For texture and rejuvenation alongside pigment concerns, many patients also consider our laser for hyperpigmentation and anti-ageing skin rejuvenation pages.
